The Worship Of Our Savior God Includes You!

Do the words “church”, “sanctuary”, “liturgy” and “Holy Communion” make you think of a Christian worship service?

Does the thought of worship lead you to the notion that it would be a chore, possibly involving an early Sunday morning rising (maybe even the need to set your alarm clock) along with the task of listening to a man preach?

Does it maybe even bring to mind a time of boredom?

Such thoughts may not appeal to the majority of humanity. Indeed, by nature none of us likes to take all of our attention and effort away from serving our own needs. By nature we are self-indulging and self-serving. We prefer not to direct all of our attention to the service of another (especially if we are not sure of any immediate gratification or happiness in return). Well, the only one who is worthy of such undivided attention is the one true God. This is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is three persons, while also one God.

- He created us.
- He saved us.
- And he continues to sustain us.

Even within the worship that happens at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, God is serving us. I know that true worship requires our input of time, attention and energy. Some have even said, “You get out of it what you put into it.” But the truth is that God uses our worship to feed our faith and to empower us to live that faith. Those tools in worship, which accomplish this goal, are the Law and Gospel. Saving faith cannot exist or be sustained without those tools. Saving faith wraps its arms around Jesus.

- It relies upon him.
- It depends upon him.
- It trusts in him implicitly.

Come to worship at St. Mark’s to grow in a single-minded focus upon our Savior, and to show through a Christian life of worship that Jesus’ work of deliverance is all that matters. Jesus alone has rescued you from sin, from death and hell. Celebrate this fact with us at St. Mark’s!
